Common Questions About Therapy

Answers to the questions most people have before their first session with Shawn.

Your first session is a chance to get to know one another in a calm, supportive space. We'll talk about what's brought you to therapy, what you're hoping for, and any concerns you may have. There is no pressure to share more than you're comfortable with — we move at your pace.
No. Therapy is not only for times of crisis. Many people attend therapy to gain clarity, improve relationships, manage stress, or better understand themselves. You are welcome at any stage of your journey.
Sessions typically run for 60–120 minutes depending on the type of therapy. Frequency is flexible and based on your needs — some clients attend weekly, fortnightly, or as needed. This is something we decide collaboratively.
Individual therapy focuses on your personal experiences, emotions, and goals. Couples therapy focuses on the relationship — supporting communication, understanding, and connection between partners. Both approaches are collaborative and tailored to the people involved.
TimeLine Therapy® is a structured yet gentle approach that helps address emotional patterns connected to past experiences. It may be helpful if you notice certain reactions or beliefs repeating in your life. We will always discuss suitability before beginning — there is no pressure to proceed with any approach that doesn't feel right for you.
Yes. Sessions are confidential, with limits only where required by law — such as risk of harm to yourself or others. Confidentiality will be clearly explained in your first session so you know exactly where you stand.
Feeling nervous is very common. Starting therapy can feel like a big step, and that's okay. We focus on creating a space that feels safe, respectful, and supportive from the very beginning. You are not expected to have it all figured out before you arrive.
Yes. Open Arms Health offers both in-person sessions at Upper Coomera, Gold Coast, and online sessions for local, national, and international clients — allowing flexibility to suit your needs and lifestyle. Both formats offer the same quality of care and support.
The therapeutic relationship is important. If you have questions or would like to talk things through before booking, you're welcome to reach out. A free 15-minute introductory call is available so you can get a feel for the approach and ask any questions before committing to a session. Finding the right support matters.
Appointments can be booked via our online booking system or by contacting Open Arms Health directly. Visit the Book Now page to choose your session type and select a time that works for you. Details are also available on the Contact page.
